Sarah Loy is a painter and multidisciplinary artist living in the West Virginia hills. Her life spent close to the flora, fauna, mountains and mountain-folk of Appalachia has instilled in Loy the reverent relationship with nature and the love for storytelling that is prevalent in her works. Inspired by mythic lore and fantasy - especially those tales unique to Appalachia - Loy's mixed-media paintings often feature dreamlike landscapes and present a mysterious and magical narrative between her subjects. Through the continual use of hair and animal fiber as a collage element, Loy addresses the complex relationships - cultural, spiritual, and so on - between humans, animals, and the elements.
